Hosta undulata mediovariegata
Those mysterious flowers on our yard are, apparently, hosta undulatas. In Finnish they are kirjokuunliljoja, which literally translated would be striped moon lilies.

Windy day
It was a very windy day, the birches bending sideways in the wind and even the small purple clover on our yard was fluttering.
Doin' some gardening
It was raining in the morning and it started raining again some time in the afternoon, but we got a good couple huors of garden work in in between. We transplanted our basils and zucchinis and green pepper, and planted some more dill and spinach - my husband finally revealed that the mystery crop there was spinach - and some beans and sweet peas.

Blossoms
Out for an evening stroll with my daughter, I photographed a blooming hedge, the blossoms on our neighbor's cherry tree and a peculiarly purple maple!
Today I noticed the first strawberry blossoms on our yard, unfortunately though right by the driveway, instead of the backyard. But they'll bloom too, eventually, I'm sure.
Dandelion horta
We were weeding our yard and pulling out all those dandelions from the lawn, when we decided to make use of them. So I cleaned a bunch of them out and we cooked a pot full of "horta" of them. Thoroughly rinsed and topped off with olive oil and lemon juice, very good!

First tulip on our yard
Elsewhere the tulipa have been blooming for some time already, but our first tulip opened its flower just today :)

Zucchinis
The first zucchini sprout. Picture from sunday, now the leavesmare already triple the size and new ones are coming out. Four other zucchinis have popped out of their seeds already, too.

Update on our garden
Onions are growing, basil seeds have sprouted, as have the first zuccinis. Medina chili is already producing its first chili pepper, and the tomato has its first flowers. Strawberries are growing at the edge of the salad, spring onion and garlic bed (where so far only garlics have their heads out of the ground).

The newest addition to our little garden is a green pepper plant.

In the evening sun
We went for a little walk in the evening sun, taking pictures of some flowers on the sides of the streets and of a couple of fabulous apple trees in full bloom. We stumbled upon a patch of grass, dandelions (not flowering yet) and other greens, and discovered it was full of snails!

More surprise flowers
Herb garden is doing good
Our (herb) garden has got several additions in the past days: a pepper mint, a bhut (naga) jolokia, a patch of different salads and spring onions and garlic.

Greens are growing
It was another beautiful sunny spring day. Birds were chirping all day long, baby birds were learning to fly. Birches have tiny new leaves, grass is green. Our dill and chives are starting to sprout and salad is already growing happily.

New flowers in our yard
Wood anemonies finally found their way to our yard too. And there's a new bunch some surprise flowers pushing their way up from the ground.

Green on the trees
Today was so far the warmest day of this spring. I noticed small leaves starting to sprout in birches and other trees.
We planted some tomatoes, an eggplant and a medina chili plant. We also got some violets and marigilds for our patio.

May Day celebration at home
May Day being the big spring celebration, we took out our garden furniture and had a splendid meal of "Vappu salad" on our patio, and had our first Strawberry Daiquiries of the spring, topped with fresh mint from our herbgarden :)
